The third Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday 25th September and participants have until the 11th September to register. To avoid disappointment the organisers would like to encourage runners to enter as soon as possible as there is a race limit of 2,000. In 2010, the numbers entered doubled from the inaugural race in 2009 and the organisers are confident that numbers will be even higher this year.
Even if you are not planning to run why not come down to Northgate to cheer on the participants as they run round the running track on the final leg of the race. Refreshments will be available and the grandstand will be open for seating. Parking will be available at Northgate Sports Centre, Ipswich Hockey Club on Tuddenham Road and Ipswich Rugby Club on Humber Doucy Lane.
The race is sponsored for the third year by leading chartered accountants and business advisors, Larking Gowen, and is organised jointly by Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich Jaffa Running Club. The nominated charities for the race are again St Elizabeth Hospice and Team Ipswich Sports Foundation, and they are hoping to raise as much money as possible for their very worthwhile local charities.
The route begins and ends at Northgate Sports Centre and runs through the town centre and communities of Ipswich. In addition there is a 4K Fun Run which, starts and finishes at the Northgate Sports Centre and, like the half marathon, the final leg is round the running track. Participants in both races will receive a memento of the day.
