Following a meeting of SCDC Scrutiny Committee at Woodbridge on Thursday 12th January it looks as if the closure of Felixstowe’s Spa Pavilion Theatre has been given a reprieve, for now at least.
The Council had said that it would remove funding from June 2012 and they had given Openwide, the current management company of the theatre, notice to that affect.
Members of the “Save the Spa” campaign gathered outside the Council Chamber in peaceful protest to make sure that the councillors were aware of the public feeling concerning the decision.
Following debate the Scrutiny Committee agreed to refer the decision to close back to Cabinet with recommendations, these recommendations are believed to be for more time to be given to look at other options.
One option for the future could be the formation of a Trust similar to that which operates the Marina Theatre in Lowestoft.
