After three extremely successful races, the fourth Larking Gowen Ipswich Half Marathon has been launched with the promise of it being even bigger and better than previous years. This year the Half Marathon is taking place on Sunday 23rd September, starting and finishing at Northgate Sports Centre in Ipswich. As this is taking place just weeks after the Olympic Games the event is looking to attract a record number of runners.
With a very full field of over 1,200 runners in the 2011 race the organisers are delighted that the event is continuing to grow in popularity year on year and numbers are going up fast for the 2012 event.
This race is sponsored by leading chartered accountants and business advisors, Larking Gowen, and is organised jointly by Ipswich Borough Council and Ipswich Jaffa Running Club.
Monies raised this year will go towards the NSPCC’s new service centre in Ipswich which protects local vulnerable children.
The undulating 13.1 mile course runs through local communities, Ipswich town centre and Christchurch Park and there are numerous opportunities along the route for spectators to cheer the runners on.
For those not keen on the 13.1 mile challenge, there is a 4K Family Fun Run starting at 9.15am, open to all ages. This run takes place within Northgate grounds, which makes it an ideal course for youngsters to enter, however any children entering under the age of eight must be accompanied by an adult. There will be a memento for all finishers.
