Tour of Britain – Leg 1 – Ipswich

Gone in a flash, onlookers on Colchester Road, Ipswich, watch the riders leave town
The sun shone, the crowds lined the route and over 100 riders including Bradley Wiggins and Mark Cavendish started on the first leg of the 2012 Tour of Britain Cycle Race.

The race commenced on the Ipswich Waterfront at 10am on Sunday 9th September before moving on to follow a route through the town centre, snaking onwards via Christchurch Park before making it’s way to Colchester Road and out of the town.

The excellent weather ensured there were plenty of people enroute to cheer the riders on their way.

Leaving Ipswich the riders headed through Kesgrave, Woodbridge, Snape, Aldeburgh, Thorpeness, Leiston, Reydon and Lowestoft before crossing into Norfolk near Great Yarmouth to head for the finish at the Norfolk Showground. Local brewer Adnams has returned this year to sponsor the event.
