Charity put best foot forward

A Suffolk based charity has kick-started its 25th Anniversary year with a successful fundraising walk.

Suffolk Family Carers, which works with unpaid Family Carers across the county and is, marking its 25th year, raised £750 through a sponsored walk in Claydon at the weekend.

Some 45 Family Carers, local supporters and keen walkers laced up their walking boots to complete a course of either three, six or ten miles close to Suffolk Family Carers’ The View Café” at Hill View Business Park.

Jacqui Martin, Chief Executive for the charity, said: “While the fundraising walk was just a small event by comparison to the many activities organised for the year, it proved the enormous eagerness there is among our Family Carers and supporters to do their bit to raise money for a local charity.

The event is one of a number planned for 2013, to mark 25 years since the organisation started supporting Family Carers through the provision of information, advice, guidance, training, health and wellbeing services, signposting, respite, a Family Carers cafe and much more.

“Every little event that someone carries out on our behalf this year – be it a cake sale in the office or a sponsored silence in the classroom – will make a massive difference to helping support the thousands of families in Suffolk who are in a situation where one person is caring for another.

Among the bigger events scheduled for the coming months are a Silver Celebration Ball at Manor Barn in Henley on 14th June and a Sky Dive in Beccles on 21st September 2013.

“The aim of our 25th anniversary year is to ensure that not only are we raising funds as we have done this weekend, but that we are educating the public – and particularly employers in the county – about the huge importance of recognising how many people out there have caring duties and need our wider support.”

Suffolk Family Carers is fortunate to have stage and screen star Ruthie Henshall as its patron. She will be singing songs from Les Miserables and Chicago at the Silver Celebration Ball.
