August is a great time to go and sample the Mid-Suffolk Light Railway, the only heritage railway in Suffolk.
Every open day throughout the month (there’s ten of them for you to take your pick from) will feature vintage steam hauled trains on the museum’s demonstration line and a variety of exciting events. There are also days where you can come just to sample the railway’s unique atmosphere from the train.
Some of the big events in August include two model railway exhibitions and the ever popular Rail ‘n’ Ale weekend over the Bank Holiday on 25th and 26th. And, for the first time this year the museum are running Light Railway Days – every Wednesday of the month where they just run the train. No frills, no added extras, just the chance to get a feel of how the MSLR would have been during its golden years. Ride on the train, visit the museum and workshops and soak in the wonderful Edwardian atmosphere of an English light railway.
The Mid-Suffolk Light Railway is a great day out, so you are bound to want to return after your first visit, so a season ticket scheme is on offer to allow you to visit as many times as you like for 12 months at no extra cost. You don’t have to ask specially for a season ticket; every one of the museum’s tickets gives you this privilege, so why not keep hold of it and make a return visit?
