Getting a Handle on Handel


Stowmarket Chorale presented ‘Getting a Handle on Handel’ a selection of the ever-popular choruses and some of the most famous solos of Handel’s Messiah, on Saturday 16th November at the John Peel Centre, Stowmarket. The sell-out performance was conducted by Leslie Olive with soloist soprano, Hannah Mayhew and piano accompanist, Glen Dempsey.

Maggie James, Fundraising and Development Officer for Age UK Suffolk said, “It was a wonderful evening with a fantastic choir. Hannah Mayhew is a fabulous soprano who was accompanied by the very talented young Glen Dempsey on the piano. The brilliant conductor, Leslie Olive, who is also Director of Music of Stowmarket Chorale, entertained the audience with stories and explanations of the pieces.”

Maggie continued, “We really appreciate the support of Stowmarket Chorale, who has donated £1 for every ticket sold, which will go towards the range of services we provide for older people in Suffolk.”

The next event by Stowmarket Chorale is A Christmas Concert on Saturday 14th December 7.00pm at Stowmarket Parish Church with conductor Leslie Olive; Christopher Moore, organ; and joining them are Combs Middle School Choir. The event is being held in association with Age UK Suffolk who are celebrating 65 years of providing services for older people in Suffolk.
