The evenings are getting lighter and as the weather improves (we hope) more people are enjoying Ipswich’s parks and open spaces.
But it is not enjoyable to stand in a pile of dog poo left by an inconsiderate pet owner and sometimes kicked into the long grass.
Ipswich Borough Council wants to keep our open spaces – and shoes – clean. So the message to dog owners is clear: clear up after your pooch and use the poo bins provided. Ensure you are prepared, take a supply of bags with you when you walk your dog. There are no excuses if you fail to clear it up.
Councillor Neil MacDonald, Cleaner Ipswich portfolio-holder, said: “We have installed an extra 100 bins across the Borough over the past 24 months so there is no excuse. We know it is only a small minority of irresponsible dog owners who cause these problems, so we will be urging people to report offenders to our Cleaner Ipswich Hotline onwww.ipswich.gov.uk/report or 01473 433000. We will take action, hand out fixed penalties and, if necessary, go to court. Last year, a resident who failed to clear up after his pet and who tried to evade payment was left £800 out of pocket.”
