Ipswich’s nationally-renowned Best Bar None scheme celebrated its fourth year of accreditations for pubs, clubs, bars and leisure venues last week with an industry award’s night at the Big Top in Christchurch Park on Thursday 3rd July 2014.
The event was held to celebrate all the hard work, time and effort put in by licensed premises across the BID and Borough. More than 100 guests attended the night, which was hosted by Town 102, Ipswich Borough Council, Ipswich Central, Suffolk Constabulary and Police and Crime Commisioner. Sponsors of the event included Ipswich Star, Matthew Clark, Heineken and Ipswich Arts Festival
The overall Ipswich Best Bar None Winners award for 2013/14 went to Bowmans Bar and Lounge, an established and welcoming bar in the heart of the county town. Bowmans were also award winners of ‘Best Bar,’ ‘Best Door Staff’ and the fantastic ‘People’s Choice Award’ voted by you.
Nationally the scheme has been set up to build on Good Practice and lead to an enhanced and safe customer experience within licensed premises. The scheme has been adopted by over 100 towns and cities within the UK.
The assessment of the licensed premises was carried out by trained, impartial assessors, who ensured consistency of approach.
Paul Clement Chief Executive of Ipswich Central commented: “The Best Bar None scheme highlights those venues that take proactive steps to provide a responsibility managed and safe environment for their customer and the Ipswich visitors. I would like to congratulate all the winners that have gone above and beyond expectations of the Best Bar None criteria.”
Cllr MacDonald from Ipswich Borough Council commented “2014 has seen another successful year for Best Bar None in Ipswich. We are delighted so many venues applied for accreditation and this year’s awards. A fantastic awards night highlighted the commitment from both the trade and the agencies and we were able to celebrate as one team. We would like to thank and congratulate all those who make up BBN but must highlight and specifically mention Bowman’s, this year’s overall winner.”
Rob Pooley, Manager and Owner at Bowmans Bar commented: “As a team we’ve worked particularly hard with introducing new policies and procedures over the past year to exceed our previous achievements of Best Bar None. We are truly honored and overwhelmed to have won 4 awards especially the Overall Winner as the competition was strong. We’d like to thank Warrior Security and their team for running the door safely and professionally allowing us to win the Best Door Staff award! Thank you to all our customers this wouldn’t be achievable without you!”
