‘Middy in the War Years’ is the big event of the Mid Suffolk Light Railway’s calendar when, in addition to the railway attractions, there is a full programme of displays and re-enactments including visiting ‘soldiers, sailors and airmen’ with all their kit and vehicles and maybe even a major historical figure or two.
And for added atmosphere, on Sunday 3rd May, there will be a flypast from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight’ s Spitfire.
This year’s event will see an expanded range of displays including military encampments, battle scenes and displays dedicated to how people lived their lives back on the home front.
As well as unlimited rides on trains pulled by one or other of two steam locomotives on duty, refreshments will be available from the well-stocked café and real ale bar and, of course the Museum and shop will also be open. Once again the neighbouring 34th Bomb Group Museum will also be open over the weekend with lots of historic artefacts on display.
Middy (Mid Suffolk Light Railway) in the War Years takes place at Brockford Station, Wetheringsett, near Stowmarket, on Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th May. For full details of this very popular event visit www.middyatwar.co.uk
