Weird and Wonderful Wood

Weird and Wonderful Wood is returning to Haughley Park in May. This fair is a celebration of many aspects of woodwork, showcasing the talents of specialist woodworkers, and described as “The most magical day ever – it was so inspiring and so much fun” Anna Morrell, Kent.

The now legendary fair attracts over 8000 visitors from far and wide over two days including people who return each year. There are always new things to see and at this year’s event our site will play host to a replica 46ft Saxon Ship, a Shephards Hut and an amazing digery doo player from Bosnia and a Wood Carver from Nigeria. As well as regular favourites which makes it one of the most exciting wood fairs of the year.

Dragon-CarvingOver 120 artists and crafts people come from all over the country, travelling from distant places such as as Scotland, Cornwall and Wales. Demonstrations include carving and sculpture, fine furniture making, musical instrument making, displays by traditional fletchers and bowyers, chain saw carving, hurdle making, wood turning, pole lathe turning, labyrinth making, as well as traditional gypsy caravan displays. There will be a working mobile sawmill, so if you want to bring your own tree, it can be cut for you!

Workshops, for both adults and children are free and include activities such as archery, den building, willow weaving, withy work, papermaking, gypsy flower making, pole lathe turning, scrap wood, clay, puppet making, jewellery making and tree climbing in nets.

If you have not been before, you will find it has a friendly and enthusiastic atmosphere with something surprising for all the family. Also allow time to enjoy a wealth of excellent local food and drink (including local beers and cider) which you can enjoy while listening to music.

Weird and Wonderful Wood is a unique event which is never the same from year to year. There are new experiences every time, including many spontaneous happenings from street performers and acoustic musicians, but one aspect that never changes is the event’s very special atmosphere that sees people return year after year as so many really enjoy it.

Weird and Wonderful Wood 2015 takes place at Haughley Park, Wetherden, Nr Stowmarket on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th May. For more information visit
