Routes are being planned and sponsors signed up as thousands of cyclists and walkers of all ages, get ready to take part in the annual church bike ride on Saturday 12 September 2015, this year is the 34th event.
There is still time to get involved as sponsor forms are available in Suffolk churches or from the Suffolk Historic Churches Trust (SHCT). Everyone walking or cycling can choose which local church will receive half of their sponsor money. The remainder goes to SHCT to be given out as grants for essential repairs. Riders can also collect sponsorship via Just Giving
Two of Suffolk’s editors have accepted the challenge to take part in this year’s Suffolk Historic Churches Bike Ride, Terry Hunt, the editor of the East Anglian Daily Times and Ipswich Star, and Peter Cook, the editor of BBC Radio Suffolk.
Routes are decided by each cyclist (or walker), incorporating stops at some of over 500 Suffolk places of worship that will be open to receive them, offering refreshemnts and encouragement.
The annual ride began in Suffolk but has now spread across England, (known as “Ride and Stride”) and taking part will be families, local history lovers, keen cyclists, church supporters and those who just enjoy an annual ride around the villages and towns of Suffolk.
