Review: New menu at Oyster Reach

Beefeater Restaurant The Oyster Reach is situated on the edge of Ipswich at the end of Wherstead Road. The pub is attached to a Premier Inn and offers breakfast, lunch and evening meals to both hotel residents and non-residents.

3-burgersBeefeater has just launched their new autumn menu, so Ipswich24’ s Wendy decided to go and check out what was on offer.

“We were greeted by a very cheerful chap who showed us to our table. The restaurant was quite busy, however everywhere was very clean and tidy. Our waitress, Linda came to take our drinks order and we had a look through the menu.

On offer are all of the dishes you would expect to find at a beefeater, mainly steaks and burgers, a few chicken dishes and a couple of fish dishes. Vegetarians are very well catered for with several options, however, in my opinion, lacking from the menu is a meat and gravy option, it would be nice to see a pie and veg…

We decided to order The Beefeater Sharing Platter as our starter as we thought this would give us a good feel for the fayre on offer, and this certainly didn’t disappoint. A large platter arrived full of yummy food including piri piri chicken wings, garlic and herb breaded mushrooms, bourbon BBQ mini ribs and more. Linda was excellent and also brought extra napkins, hand wipes and a little finger bowl to the table – the starter was quite messy!

For the main course I ordered the calves’ liver with bacon – a dish that is new to the menu and my dining partner plumped for the smothered chicken melt. The Liver was lovely and thoroughly enjoyable, however my partner found his chicken to be a little dry and overcooked, and his plate didn’t seem that appealing to look at, however he did say that it tasted ok, though it was probably a dish that he wouldn’t order again.

IMG_3181For desert my partner chose the mixed berry cheesecake, whilst I opted for the lemon meringue pie. Both puddings not only looked lovely they tasted great too and were a great finish to the meal.

The Oyster Reach is a lovely place for an evening out, the staff are all very efficient and helpful and the pub is in a lovely location overlooking Foxes Marina. The menu does cater for most and is easy to read. There is also a very good children’s menu done in the style of the Mr Men.

Will we be dining at the Oyster Reach again in the future? Yes, we probably will… It’s a great place for families and couples alike, friendly staff, a clean dining area and plenty of parking – what’s not to like.”
