A talk and slideshow on the history of Ipswich Docks is taking place on Friday 8th January, 2016.
The illustrated talk entitled “170 Years of Life around Ipswich Docks”, will be presented by Stuart Grimwade, who has been a Director of Ipswich Maritime Trust since the year 2000, and will include photographs from the Trusts archives – which Stuart has accumulated and restored to number around 3000.
The talk is taking place aboard the historic Sailing Barge “Victor”, berthed on Ipswich Waterfront adjacent to the Old Custom House. Doors open at 7.00pm and the talk starts at 8.00pm. Victor’s Licensed bar will be open for the event. Tickets for the talk cost £5.00 per person and are available in advance from Ipswich Tourist Information Centre, St Stephen’s Church – telephone 01473 258070, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Sailing Barge Victor is herself a feature of Ipswich’s Maritime history. Built in the town in 1895 she worked the local coast and estuaries carrying bulk cargo for many decades. Today she is fully restored for pleasure cruises as well as hosting events, functions and meetings.
