The creative fundraising efforts of staff at Ipswich-based insurance brokers Ryan’s is helping local young people back into education and to enjoy the social and community opportunities many of us take for granted.
The £1600 raised this year will help Lapwing to provide specialist educational support for at-risk young people in Suffolk. The bespoke one-to-one education and work experience opportunities are a lifeline for those who might otherwise be confined to their homes or take part in anti-social behaviour in their local communities.
As well as creating a ‘tuck shop’ stocked with goodies supplied by Ryan’s where all profits are passed to Lapwing the team runs a ‘Win a Day off Work’ (WADOW) initiative. Participating employees can purchase tickets for £1 each month to be in with a chance of winning a day off work.
Tim Larke, director at Ryan’s says “I chose Lapwing as I’ve seen how important it is to protect and nurture young people and I’ve seen the dedication and specialisms of the Lapwing team. It’s a modern, dynamic charity and Lapwing put vulnerable young people at the heart of everything they do. The whole team here are creative and enthusiastic with their fundraising and it’s good for team-building and contributes to our supportive team culture.”
Wendy Quantrill, Lapwing Communications and Fundraising Manager, said: “At Lapwing we continually meet young people who are excluded from their community and from education due to autism, mental ill-health, learning disabilities, being ‘in care’ and displaying challenging behaviour. The team at Ryan’s understand the barriers our students face and share their successes by coming to our events. We are incredibly grateful for their continuing support.’
