New look for BBC Suffolk

BBC Radio Suffolk today announced that Mark Murphy will return as the voice of their new-look Breakfast Show, with James Hazell stepping into his shoes to present the mid-morning show.

From Monday 19 September, the all new ‘Mark Murphy at Breakfast’ show will entertain listeners across the county through their morning routine, rush hour commute and the school run. The show, which starts at 7am and will end at 10am on weekdays, will deliver the day’s biggest news stories, hold the county’s decision makers to account and be the hotspot for the day’s hottest topics.

Mark has been a huge part of BBC Radio Suffolk since its launch in 1990. He hosted the station’s flagship Breakfast Show for 11 years, making him the longest serving host of the programme, before moving on to the mid-morning phone in for the past five years.

BBC Radio Suffolk’s managing editor, Peter Cook, said: “I’m delighted that Mark’s returning to the breakfast show. He is Suffolk through and through and he’s very well-known and well-liked across the county. I’m sure listeners will enjoy waking up to him. And, he’s got a great team working with him so listen out for plenty of surprises.”

“We’ve also tweaked the rest of the weekday line-up. With this new-look schedule we’ve created more opportunities for people to get involved with our shows – and set the agendas themselves.

“James Hazell will take over from Mark at 10am to host the mid-morning show until 1pm. Lesley Dolphin will be in charge of the airwaves until 4pm, then Stephen Foster will keep listeners company for the drive home from work between 4pm and 7pm.”

Mark said: “I’m itching to get started on the BBC Radio Suffolk Breakfast show. It’s simply the best time of the day to be on the radio. I’m really looking forward to getting the county going each morning with topics that will get Suffolk talking.”
