A sandwich specialist’s sensational start to its launch at a busy Ipswich shopping centre has been recognised with its very own letter from America.
The Subway restaurant in Sailmakers Shopping Centre went from nought to 200 Subway foot-long submarine sandwiches on its very first day and is currently selling over 1500 a week.
That’s earned them a big thank-you from sandwich central, Subway’s Milford, Connecticut, headquarters who have sent them a letter of congratulations.
Sailmakers Subway manager Melanie Pozo (pictured above) is delighted at the recognition and she said: “It was a lovely surprise and we’ve put it up on the wall to let everybody know.
“We’ve been very busy since we opened in June and it was even busier leading up to Christmas and ever since then it’s hardly slowed down.
“We’re one of the biggest Subways in Ipswich with over 50 seats and we’re often full – I think we could easily manage to fill even more if we could extend.”
Subway, founded in the USA in 1965, overtook McDonald’s as the largest restaurant operator in the world with over 44,000 in 112 countries.
It launched in the UK in 1996 and now has over 2,000 restaurants with the Sailmakers outlet one of over 200 to open last year.
