Ipswich-based Gecko, multi award-winning physical theatre company, bring their new show The Wedding to New Wolsey Theatre for 4 shows only. Opens Thursday, 20 April.
Award-winning physical theatre company Gecko’s new show The Wedding focuses on personal and political marriage. With a performing company of nine, this is Gecko’s most ambitious show to date which will preview at Northern Stage (Newcastle, 30 March – 1 April), followed by three performances at New Wolsey Theatre (Ipswich, 20 – 22 April) and Warwick Arts Centre (Coventry, 4 – 6 May). Further autumn 2017 and spring 2018 dates will be announced soon.
Gecko’s Artistic Director Amit Lahav said in an interview with The Guardian’s Lyn Gardner: “It’s inevitable a show about marriage has become one about divorce, too, much more than I ever anticipated. But this isn’t a piece about Brexit. It’s about the social contract that we all have with the state, the agreement in its simplest form that says you will be protected in return for taxes and loyalty. What if you start feeling, as I have, that you are in a forced marriage and the terms of the contract – potential changes to human rights; surveillance – are shifting beneath your feet, what can you do?”
Gecko is an award-winning and internationally-acclaimed physical theatre company, led by Artistic Director Amit Lahav. Established in 2001, Gecko has developed 6 full-length shows, numerous youth projects and workshops and celebrated its 15th anniversary last year.
