Update: 12.30pm (Tuesday):
Ipswich Borough Council have said their bin crews are doing their best to get round in the icy conditions but might miss some bins today as progress in a few areas is slow. A Borough Council spokesman said this afternoon: “If your bin is not collected please leave it out and we will catch up as soon as possible.”

Updated 9am Tuesday:
Ipswich’s bin crews were out early today as the cold weather intensified and more snow was forecast for this morning.

A Borough Council spokesman said every effort was being made to collect residents’ bins. “All the crews were out at 6am. We apologise if we don’t get to you today but we are doing our best. Please be patient and we will empty your bin as soon as we are able to do so safely.”

7am – Tuesday:
Borough staff were out hand-gritting parts of the town centre and around the railway station. Roads are the responsibility of Suffolk Highways – If you want to find out the latest about gritting in your area go to the following website:
https://www.suffolk.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/highway-maintenance/salting-gritting-and-clearing-snow/The Borough Council’s cold weather beds remain open throughout this week. The 11 beds are provided in partnership with Genesis Housing Association at Cavendish Lodge, 10 Turret Lane, Ipswich IP4 1DL.

Access to Cavendish Lodge is from 5pm for an initial assessment by staff, with risk assessments completed by 6pm. After that, access will be limited to service users being brought in by prior agreement of staff or by Police.

Accommodation also comes with an offer of housing advice to see if trained staff can provide longer term help.

Ipswich’s parks are open as usual but we urge people to take care on paths that could become icy over the next few days.

The Shopmobility service is closed – volunteers have not been able to get in today.

Some Ipswich Market stallholders are braving the cold, among them Coxy’s fruit and veg and the Biryani Hut – perfect to warm you up on the inside!
