On Saturday 20th October from 11am to 8pm a new show comes to Stonham Barns, the Saxon & Viking Festival.
There will be over 10 different re-enactment groups from around the country creating a living history camp made up solely for the Viking and Saxon period. These groups will give an insight into the Viking and Saxon way of life. You will find cooking, weaving, leathercraft, woodwork, blacksmithing, herbalists, Saga story-telling and rune reading. There will be the chance to try some ‘have a go sessions’ such as archery and axe throwing. There will be re-enactment displays and battles during the day, with a torchlight parade and fantastic spectacle of Viking Ceremonial Boat burning to finish off in the evening. You will be able to see Hollywood Viking themed films and local interest Dark Age films, fashion show, demo and crafts, live folk music and children’s activities including face painting and shield, sword and helmet making.
