Sunday August 1st 2010, is the date for the biggest day in the calendar for all the county’s dogs – the Suffolk Dog Day – so let the howling begin and get the kennels, dog baskets, and beds across the county ready for action.
For the third year running the gates of Helmingham Hall will be open to welcome in canine friends of all breeds, shapes and sizes and their owners for a fun filled day of dog classes and family entertainment in one big celebration of man’s best friend.
The organisers promise lots of new features and entertainment, celebrity commentators including former Crufts presenter Peter Purves and BBC Radio Suffolk’s Rob Dunger. To celebrate the end of the World Cup there will be doggie football to prove an extra couple of legs really does help, a bird of prey flying display, great prizes as well as the usual sideshows, catering and refreshment village and plenty to keep dog, owner, family and friends entertained.
The 12 classes have names not to be sniffed or howled at – Dogs on the Catwalk, the Dog with the Waggiest Tail, Two’s Company – the best matching pair and the most different pair of dogs – and Suffolk’s Next Top Model (dog).
Registration forms are now available and pre-registration is open via www.suffolkdogday.com so sign up today or for more details contact info@suffolkdogday.com or call 01473 886100.
Established just five years ago, The Suffolk Foundation is a registered charity dedicated to improving the quality of life for people living in the county. Already it has awarded grants in excess of £2m to local charities and voluntary groups so all the proceeds of Suffolk Dog Day will go to fantastic local causes to support Suffolk communities.

Already generous sponsorship support has come from Adnams plc, the “lead” sponsor. “This is a wonderful event, Adnams is delighted to be involved again this Year. We love telling people about Dog Day, everyone thinks it's a fantastic way to support local charities by raising funds for the Suffolk
Foundation. There's always such a great turn out, I didn't realise Suffolk boasts so many breeds of dogs!” said Emma Hibbert, head of corporate affairs for Adnams.
More sponsors are in final stages of negotiation and will be announced shortly, but already Hopkins Homes, Orwell Vets, BOCM Pauls, Suffolk New College, Vitamin Creative, Pampered Pets Hotel, Chatterton’s shops and Marianna boutique of Ipswich have signed and Skinner’s Pet Foods will sponsor the agility ring once again run by Sophia of ’On the Scent’ and ‘Feisty Fidos’. There will be agility demonstrations on the day so everyone can have a go.
Exhibition stands are starting to book up with Adnams boat bar leading the way. People interested in taking a space at the event which last year attracted more than 7,500 people should contact info@suffolkdogday or call for details.
It’s early days so mark your diaries, set your phones and PC’s on alert and be part of our canine community on The Suffolk Foundation facebook page and don’t forget to follow us on Twitter – Suffolkdogday.
The day starts at midday, but gates open from 10.30am. Keep an eye out in the local press and listen to local radio for more details. “Every dog should have his day and this will be an even greater one than before,” promised Dog Day Chairman Jacqui Mayne.
• Discounted tickets are available in advance costing £15 for a family (£18 on the day), £5 adults (£6 on the day), £3 (£4 on the day) for children, concessions, over 60s and entry is £3 per class.
