Green Flag for Park
Three cheers for Christchurch Park – Ipswich’s green jewel has won its third Green Flag Award.

The coveted awards recognise the best parks in the country and Christchurch Park again stood out after impressing the judges with its excellent use of green space, well-maintained facilities and high standard of safety and security.

Councillor Inga Lockington, Environment portfolio-holder at Ipswich Borough Council, said: “This is a fantastic achievement and I would like to congratulate everyone involved. Three awards takes some doing. The Council relies on the expertise and hard work of its staff, and the passion of the Friends of Christchurch Park, indeed on the Management Board of the park, and it shows that when we all work together what can be achieved.

“Above all, this is an award for residents and visitors who love Christchurch Park – it is their park and I hope they share our jubilation. Our forthcoming vision for our parks includes the ambition to win Green Flags for three of our parks – the award here means we are well on the way.”

This year a record 1,200 Green Flags and Green Pennants were awarded across the UK compared to 1,013 in 2009. Green Pennants are awarded to parks or green spaces managed by a community or voluntary group.

The scheme is run by the Green Flag Plus Partnership, which consists of environmental charities Keep Britain Tidy, BTCV and GreenSpace.

Paul Todd, Manager of the Green Flag Award Scheme, said: “It’s a remarkable achievement that so many parks have successfully reached Green Flag Award status this year. The staff running the parks work very hard throughout the year to ensure their facilities are maintained to a high standard and enjoyed by the entire community.”

Treehouse reaches £750,000!!!!!
East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) Treehouse Appeal has today (2/7) announced that it has reached £750,000 in it's appeal. The target is to raise £3m.

East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH) are a step closer to realising their dream of providing a much-needed children’s hospice in Ipswich after announcing the new £750,000 Treehouse Appeal fundraising total.
The announcement confirms that support for the appeal continues to grow following the launch in March this year.
The appeal needs to raise a total of £3 million to provide a children’s hospice for life-threatened children and their families across Suffolk and North Essex. EACH has outgrown its current facility in Walker Close, which is also inadequate for the needs of the families in the region.
Melanie Chew, EACH director of fundraising, said: “The Treehouse Appeal is gathering momentum thanks to the generosity of donors from far and wide, and the inspired creativity of our supporters.
“We have already seen support from individuals, companies, community groups and schools who have been organising a wide range of fundraising events for us.
“With forthcoming fundraising opportunities such as The Maverick Festival, The Summer Big De-clutter, Lowestoft Seafront Air Festival and a Bucks Fizz concert we can only build on our success and move a step closer to building a much-needed children’s hospice for Suffolk and North Essex.”

The town is served by four radio stations: BBC Radio Suffolk, Heart, Town 102 and ICRFM. The morning paper is the East Anglian Daily Times (EADT) and evening edition is known as The Star.

There are four theatres in the town, details available on our ON STAGE page. Cardinal Park is an area situated between the town centre and the river and offers a wide choice of nightlife, restaurants and cinema complex.
