Trees Fit For a Queen
Old Felixstowe Community Association will be marking the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with the planting of six trees – one for each decade of her reign – and a display in the Community Centre in Ferry Road.

It is intended that each of the trees – two oaks, two silver birches and two red flowering cherries – will be planted by groups and organisations in the area, on the recreation field to the rear of the Centre.

Children from the two local primary schools, Kingsfleet Primary School and Colneis Junior School will be planting one tree and the Rev. John Aston, vicar of St. Peter and Paul Church in Ferry Road will be planting another.

It is hoped that other ‘planters’ will come from the Association, from amongst the oldest residents in the area and from the local Town Council.

After the planting ceremony – expected to take place between 10.30am and 12.30pm on Friday 1st June 2012 – there will be a display in the Community Centre of photographs showing changes in Old Felixstowe during the 60 years of the Queen’s reign. The local primary schoolchildren will also have displays of their own artwork depicting the life of the Queen and will be entertaining the visitors with some musical entertainment.

Association members will be lending their own Coronation memorabilia for display on the day with the photos and paintings

Coffee and tea will be available to visitors and invited guests at the Centre both before and after the planting.
