Hundreds of women have signed up for St Elizabeth Hospice’s Midnight Walk – but organisers are appealing for more to take part.

Lauren Jones has signed up the walk, why don't you
Team up with your friends, colleagues and female relatives for a fun girl’s night out in aid of the charity on Saturday 19th May. But you must sign up by May 11th.

This year there are two routes to choose from, eight or five miles, starting from Ipswich Town Football Club. This is the perfect opportunity for groups of women from slimming groups or gym classes to unite and keep fit but have a laugh with your friends and other women in aid of the worthy cause.

Lauren Jones, who works at Haven Power in Ipswich, is taking part in the Midnight Walk with her boyfriend’s mum and auntie in memory of her mum, Carol Jones, who died at the Hospice in October 2011.

Lauren said, “I watched my boyfriend’s mum and auntie do the Midnight Walk last year and it looked so much fun, seeing all the women laughing, I thought it would be a suitable and fun event for me to do in memory of mum.

“Mum was only diagnosed with lung cancer in May 2011, it all happened quite quickly, but what mum got in the Hospice in her final week was amazing, everyone was so good to her and we just want to say thank you and give something back.”

The three women will be taking the five-mile route and Lauren hopes to raise between £200-300 in sponsorship from family, friends and her colleagues at Haven Power in Ipswich.

There will be a school disco-themed warm up and you can always jazz up your fancy dress with bunny ears, leg warmers and feather boas which will soon be available in the Hospice shops.
The Hospice costs £6.6 million a year to run with almost three quarters of that figure coming from the local community.
