Jethro Tull

Jethro Tull are celebrating their 40th Anniversary as a band with a mammoth 29-date UK tour. Most performances of “An Evening With Jethro Tull” will feature a special guest, who fans will know and recognise, as Ian Anderson honours past band members, friends and local musicians. As well as performing a Tull song or two, guests might also perform one of their own songs.
Ian Anderson is taking this opportunity to thank Tull fans for their continued support over the past four decades by performing a bumper show which will provide a comprehensive trip through their history. Much of the show will focus on the first 3 albums - performing such early favourites as Serenade To A Cuckoo, My Sunday Feeling, Living In The Past, Bouree, A Song For Jeffrey and A new Day Yesterday. The band will also treat fans to some new songs, which are as yet unreleased as well as perennial favourites from their long career.
In their 40 years, Jethro Tull have sold over 60 million albums and have performed over 2,600 shows in more than 40 countries.
EMI are marking the 40th Anniversary with a very special Two CD 40th Anniversary Collectors Edition of Jethro Tull's seminal debut album 'This Was', (released 28th April). Disc One is the album in mono which has never been on CD before, plus nine BBC tracks from sessions which relate to the album. CD Two is a new stereo mix of the album plus rare early singles tracks: Sunshine Day, Song For John Gee, Love Story and Christmas Song.
Jethro Tull was initially a strange kind of blues band, mixing blues with folk and at times, hard rock. Band advisers tried and failed to persuade Ian to give up the flute and let Mick do all the singing, but it was Ian's stage performances that elevated the band above other blues rock bands of the time, and brought Jethro Tull to the attention of the media. In the summer of 1968, they performed at the first Hyde Park Festival, opening for Pink Floyd and later that year they recorded their debut album.
This Was, released 40 years ago, reached number 10 in the UK charts, partly thanks to great airplay from BBC Radio DJ John Peel. In recent years, Jethro Tull and their music have featured in several TV shows, from the Sopranos (where Tony Soprano sang a Tull song) to Saxondale, Friends and Ugly Betty, who featured a name check recently.
• Jethro Tull are at The Ipswich Regent, Saturday May 17th. Box Office: 01473 433100.

ROY CHUBBY BROWN
Roy “Chubby” Brown is a modern day phenomenon. He has become a huge superstar without appearing on television, some may say his success is because he does not appear on our T.V screens.
His Videos and DVD’s sell in millions and his live appearance are ‘sell outs’ months in advance.
His outrageous material is considered by many to be offensive, however he has always warned his audience “If easily offended please stay away”
This warning has worked in his favour, forbidden fruit!
His comic appearance multi-coloured funny suit and flying helmet is not far removed from the traditional circus clown. His delivery, style, comic songs, funny walk/dance is all contained in a genuinely funny man.
He is a lovely man off-stage and it is a joy to be in his company, he laughs at himself, (well he is 19 stones) his wife, other people, and life itself. His material is never static; he reviews the newspapers every day and will constantly find comedy within.
His philosophy, find one funny piece every day, over a year that is a lot of material.
In 2002 he was devastated when diagnosed with throat cancer Roy was told that if he survived he might never be able to talk again but after successful treatment, grit, determination and the care of his wife and family, surgeons, doctors and nurses he is back to his best doing what he loves best entertaining his loyal fans.
He has toured the UK selling out theatres for the past 20 years, and in February 2006 Roy toured Australia, New Zealand, and has also played concerts in the Far East and the USA.
The popular cult television show ‘The League of Gentlemen’ named a village after him ‘Royston Vasey’ and asked him to play the Mayor.
2006 was a very exciting year for the larger than life character. Roy’s Autobiography ‘Common as Muck’ was released. Within the first few weeks ‘Common as Muck’ entered the Sunday Times Bestsellers Hardback charts at Number 7 and remained within the top 10 for five weeks selling more than 2,000 books per week. To date ‘Common as Muck’ has sold more than 40,000 since it’s release on 3rd August ’06.
5th July 2007 – ‘Common as Muck’ was released on Paperback, and continues to remains one of the bestselling autobiographies to date.
He has had 19 Videos and DVD’s released and a huge cinema movie UFO.
On 6th November ’06 saw the release of Kick Arse Chubbs which reached number one in the UK’s leading supermarket chain Tescos, and Kick Arse Chubbs is currently the third best stand up title of the year. Selling over 150,000 since November 6th.
On November 5th 2007 Roy’s 19th DVD ‘The Good, The Bad and the Fat Ba**ard’ was released along with a triple box set collection, including the above title plus ‘The Helmets Last Stand’ and ‘From inside the Helmet’ never released on DVD before. Roy keeps on delivering the gags in his own inimitable style. Crammed full of stuff too rude for TV, ‘The Good, the Bad and the Fat Ba**ard’ is a must see for fans of the outrageous.
You can always rely on Chubby to shock but never disappoint. There’s nothing this man isn’t afraid to talk about…!! So don’t miss his live performance at the fantastic Ipswich Regent on Wed 14th May.
