The
Spa Pavilion, Felixstowe announced recently that Jane McDonald,
much loved singer, Loose Women host and star of BBC show
The Cruise, comes to venue on Saturday 24th October 2009.
Fresh from sell out appearances across the UK Jane’s
smash hit live concert is set to thrill local audiences
with her own unique mixture of music and laughter. Complete
with her fabulous band and backing singers, not forgetting
those amazing frocks, she has been delighting audiences
around the country all year and looks forward to yet another
memorable evening. This is definitely an event not to be
missed.
Jane also released her highly anticipated new album ‘Jane’
in August 2008- on her own label JMD.
The album comprises of five self-written songs and a selection
of classic hits, it exemplifies what Jane McDonald does
best: she can make a song, any song, entirely her own. Lead-off
track is Doctor's Orders- the fabulously camp 70s disco
hit by Sunny. The album also includes songs such as –
Not A Day Goes By, perhaps the most requested song on Jane's
website. Written in the wake of her grandmother's death,
she has adapted the lyrics to transform this touching ballad
into a song that will strike a chord with anyone who has
ever lost someone close. The album's centrepiece, it is
accompanied by a choir and a 65 piece orchestra. Sweet Talker
shows another side of Jane altogether, an up tempo country
rock-influenced number full of impish mischief. And then
there is You Do It All For Me, which represents another
gear change, a swaggering bluesy number and, in Jane's own
estimation, "a rather raunchy song, and quite sexy.
People will not believe it's really me singing it, but it
is, I promise you!" People will not believe it's really
me singing it, but it is, I promise you!" There are
also her interpretations of Dusty Springfield’s Song
For You, Barry Manilow's Even Now and One Voice, the Northern
Soul classic Nine Times Out Of Ten, and Neil Sedaka's The
Hungry Years.
Jane’s live show features many of these numbers together
with a host of other great favourites, and a blend of warmth
and humour which makes her one of Britain’s favourite
entertainers.
In the 10 years since Jane McDonald first came to public
recognition, captivating audiences with her Yorkshire charm
on the BBC documentary series The Cruise (‘Return
To The Cruise’ on BBC 2 in August 2008), she has sold
hundreds of thousands of albums, toured every inch of the
country, earned herself a place in the Guinness Book of
Records (for being the first artist to top the album charts
without a prior release), performed for Royalty; sold out
the MGM Grand Las Vegas and also scooped Yorkshire Woman
of the Year. She is also now a regular on ITV's Loose Women,
her face familiar to millions, and is, in effect, nothing
less than a national treasure. No small leap for someone
who never even aimed to progress out of the northern cabaret
circuit that she effortlessly dominated in her early years.
‘I seem to have played out much of my life in front
of thousands of people," she shrugs, "and I feel
very lucky to have been given such a rare opportunity. What’s
happened in my life has been a dream come true. And best
of all," she adds, now laughing, "variety is coming
back in a big way. Look at Saturday night TV! Variety dominates!
I'm quite trendy now."
This is true, but only up to a point. Trend is a fleeting
thing. Jane McDonald inspiration to so many is here to stay.
