A BEAVER Colony for six-to-eight-year-olds is desperately
seeking a new leader, or has warned it will have to close
- just one year short of 1st Woodbridge Scout Group's much-anticipated
centenary.
1st Woodbridge Beaver Colony would love you to join them
if you have some free time and can organise activities such
as crafts, games and cooking, on a Monday evening from 5.25pm
to 6.25pm at the Scout Hut in the centre of town, plus the
occasional trip for crabbing or a forest walk etc.
"If we were to close, the children would be absolutely
devastated," said Assistant Leader Nicky Page.
Anyone, male or female over the age of 18, may apply for
the role, subject to CRB clearance. You should be able to
offer "enthusiasm and commitment" to the Beaver
Colony's 18 boys and girls from the town and surrounding
villages, who then move on through the sections to Cubs,
Scouts and Explorers.
"I promise you will get a lot back from seeing the
children so happy," added Mrs Page. Training is provided,
and the Leader is supported by his/her Assistant and two
members of the Explorer group. You will also get support
from the team of leaders from the other sections within
the group.
Present Leader Anita Fawcett, who is having to give up the
role due to other commitments, said: "When I began
to get involved with Beavers seven years ago I had three
energetic little sons, the youngest being only two, also
an evening job and a husband working long hours. But it
has been a very positive, worthwhile hobby and I have really
enjoyed being part of 1st Woodbridge over all those years."
"A new Leader is needed from September, and anyone
is welcome to come along to see what we do, try it, and
see if it's for them," added Mrs Page.
