Ian Maclay, Managing Director, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, said: "The RPO is delighted to be involved in Ipswich's Proms in the Park in July. We already enjoy links with the area through our successful residency at the Regent Theatre and we look forward to performing on a fine summer's day at Christchurch Park. I am sure that the event will be hugely popular and that we will be able to bring the joy of live orchestral music to as many people as possible."

Councillor Judy Terry, Arts, Culture and Leisure portfolio-holder for Ipswich Borough Council, said: "This is going to be a brilliant concert. The park is an ideal place for people to hear one of the best orchestras in the world. It will have a real festival and picnic atmosphere and I am sure will be very popular."

Promoter, David Mansfield said: "Combining the fantastic musicianship of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the beautiful setting of Christchurch Park, a programme of popular proms music and a breathtaking fireworks finale is set to produce the musical event of the Summer."

Christchurch Park, Ipswich
Christchurch Park was the first public park in Ipswich, opening in 1895. With 33 hectares of picturesque grounds right in the heart of the town, the park is also in one of Ipswich's conservation areas. It is a designated County Wildlife site and is on the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens of special historic interest. After generations of use the park had a grand 're-opening' in May 2008 after a £4.5 million restoration project.

The park plays host to many events and activities all year round, including the Ip-art festival (of which 'The Very Best of the Last Night of the Proms' is a part), an annual Fireworks Display organised by the 11th Ipswich Scout Group, nature walks, arts and crafts activities, storytelling and trails for children of all ages. Its facilities include a children's play area, tennis courts, bowling greens, a croquet lawn and a visitor and education centre.

Ip-art
Running from 26th June to 11th July 2010 the eighth annual Ip-Art festival brings art and culture to the fore. The unique and diverse mix of exhibitions, performances and events are enjoyed by thousands of people from across the region. Using traditional venues throughout the town, as well as public buildings and spaces, local and nationally based artists and organisations bring an exciting blend of tradition, innovation and imagination to the arts in Ipswich. The Ip-art festival is organised by Ipswich Borough Council in conjunction with the Festival Management Group, made up of specialist arts partners across Ipswich and Suffolk. www.ip-art.com
