This time I’m
going to answer one of the questions I’m often asked
in the shop.
Sports supplements have gone through a bit of a revolution
during the 12 years that I have been selling them.
There is now a huge range of products available to increase
muscle size; reduce fat; and improve power; strength; and
endurance.
Unfortunately the wide range of available supplements
can also create confusion. Anyone reading the advertising
and marketing material that accompanies today’s cutting
edge products, could be forgiven for buying products that
may not quite do what the user expects.
I frequently speak to people who have tried various products
that “don’t work” for them in the
way they expected. Often the reason for this is a
combination of confusing advertising; bad advice; or a lack
of understanding of how the product works. I never cease
to be amazed at the amount of miss-information I hear banded
about. People will sometimes come to me with a product
they have been recommended to use and ask me about
its effectiveness. I have known people buy (or be sold)
weight gainers when their goal is to lose weight; energy
drinks to build muscle; and creatine monohydrate to
reduce water retention!! To name just a few.
Getting the most from supplements is about using the right
product, for the right application, in the right environment. Get
this right, and supplements become perhaps the biggest
and best aid to achieve the results you want. Get
it wrong, and you can spend lots of money with little result,
leading to frustration and disillusionment. Its important
to get the fundamentals in place when it comes to sports
nutrition and supplements.
The products that will work for you are dependant on the
goals you want to achieve. There is also a little
experimentation involved; products can often be stacked
(taken at the same time) to improve results. Sometimes
my advice is to take more (or less) than the recommended
dose of a particular product; again depending on the person,
the objectives and the environment they are used in.
This sort of information isn’t usually found on the
labels or the advertising, its a result of experience, experimentation
and customer feedback.
If you want to know what supplements are best for you and
how to use them...then by now you should know where to come.
