Obesity is a mounting health problem
locally and worldwide. More than 1 billion adults globally
are overweight, and at least 300 million are obese, according
to the World Health Organization. In 2010 the costs of obesity
to Ipswich is estimated at £1000S
Every year millions of people in the UK make a New Year’s
resolution to lose weight. Seventy five per cent of adults
make weight loss their number one aim, but
despite the resolutions and the costs to health, many slimmers
will have given up their dreams of leading a healthier lifestyle
by the end of the January.
But it needn’t be that way. Researchers at Slimming
World, the UK’s leading weight loss organisation,
have identified that if slimmers are successful in losing
weight in their first six weeks, they’re far more
likely to carry on and lose weight in the long term. The
motivation of a great start in those crucial first six weeks
is strongly linked to would-be slimmers reaching their ultimate
target weight and the longer they keep going to their Slimming
World group the more likely they are to stay at their dream
weight long term.
So Slimming World has created a brand new eating plan designed
to give slimmers the best possible start to their weight
loss campaign in those early weeks. And slimmers in Ipswich
have the chance to try it for themselves this month, when
the new Extra Easy plan launches in Liz Torrie’s Slimming
World groups at Pals, Chantry clinic and the Conservative
Club.
Now in its 40th year, Slimming World has for decades been
the most advanced slimming organisation offering a cleverly
constructed package of a flexible eating plan (which the
company calls ‘Food Optimising’) and an easy
to start activity programme combined with warm and friendly
group support. It’s a unique combination that helps
individuals choose a weight loss solution that best fits
with their lifestyle so they can make it a new everyday
healthy routine. Slimming World’s research team are
constantly reviewing what is most likely to help members
achieve lasting success and they’re very excited about
the launch of Extra Easy.
Nutritionist Jacquie Lavin PhD told us, “There’s
so much conflicting advice these days about how to lose
weight, and our new plan cuts right through it all to give
a really easy, flexible start to every slimmer’s journey.
It’s easy to follow with loads more choices, no measuring
and no counting. And because it’s based on basic everyday
filling foods it fits easily with the family whatever their
lifestyle too. In trials members had great results on the
scales – as well as saving money on their weekly shopping
bills too!
Local Slimming World Consultant, Liz is also thrilled about
the new plan and its flexibility. “It’s a really
easy, achievable way to get started on a weight loss campaign.
I’m looking forward to welcoming new members to my
groups to give it a go.”
During trials members who tried the new plan were enthusiastic
about its flexibility and adaptability. They report that
because it is so easy to follow, with no weighing or measuring,
plenty of choice and enough freedom to still enjoy a glass
of wine or chocolate it is easier than ever to stick to.
