Ipswich Theatrical Guided Walk

A special guided walk entitled “From Shakespeare to DanceEast” has been arranged by the town’s Blue Badge Tourist Guides to highlight the history of the theatre in Ipswich.

The walk, commencing at the Tourist Information Centre, St. Stephen’s Church, at 2.15 on Wednesday 22nd June, will feature buildings and sites of theatres (past and present) and some of the famous characters associated with them.

Ipswich has an important performing arts heritage – as long ago as 1741 the renowned Shakespearian actor of the day, David Garrick, made his debut in Ipswich and today the town has a vibrant entertainment scene, including several theatres and venues and Ip-art, the annual festival of music and the arts.

The walk will include a tour of the Regent Theatre and finish at DanceEast on the Waterfront for refreshments.

Numbers are limited so places should be booked in advance at the Tourist Information Centre (telephone 01473 258070, email tourist@ipswich.gov.uk ). The cost is £6 per person, which includes refreshments.
