Nearly 2,000 people at recent events in the county have had an opportunity to make their own fruit smoothies and at the same time benefit from a bit of exercise.
The new Healthy Ambitions Suffolk smoothie bike is a static cycle with a blender driven by pedal power and has been a hit over June at the Ipswich Skyride, the Great East Swim and the Suffolk Show.
Claire Parker, of Healthy Ambitions Suffolk, said visitors of all ages made a total of 1,820 smoothies with 1400 of those being made over the two days of the Suffolk Show. She said: “The bike is a simple but brilliant innovation. Anyone with normal fitness can have a good pedal and enjoy the smoothie afterwards. The smoothies are nutritious and taste great.”
Dr Peter Funnell, Chair of Healthy Ambitions Suffolk, says the bike has been bought to raise awareness about keeping a healthy heart by exercising and eating well. “This is a simple and fun way to encourage activity and reward it in a nutritious way. HAS will be building on the success of the smoothie bike in the coming months and making it more available as a focus to support people take a small step to improve their heart health.”
Healthy Ambitions Suffolk is also supporting the Orwell Walk on 26 June and is encouraging businesses to enter teams. More information about this and about Healthy Ambitions Suffolk can be found at www.healthyambitionssuffolk.co.uk.
