Hollytrees: Create your own Tea Party

Get along to Hollytrees Museum, Colchester and create your own version of a typical Victorian afternoon tea party by making your own tea cup or cup cake out of clay.

Workshops for clay tea cups will be on Tuesday 2nd and Wednesday 3rd August and clay cup cakes will take place on Thursday 4th and Friday 5th August.

Once you’ve had fun making your tea cup or cake out of clay, you can use acrylic paints to make your cakes look as delicious as you’d like or be artistic and create your own unique special pattern on your tea cup with colourful or stylish designs. While you are in the museum, why not take a look at the display of tea cups and grab some inspiration from their designs!

Afternoon tea has always been popular, dating back as late as the 19th century. Anna, Duchess of Bedford (1783 – 1857) was the first to ‘invent’ the idea, after many others followed her lead of enjoying a cup tea and a slice of cake for lunch. Now, you have the chance to get involved in this tradition yourself.

So what colour theme will your handmade tea cup and cup cake be? Maybe you’ll decide to paint a cup with bright red polka dot spots or create a cake that looks almost good enough to eat. Perhaps you’ll even go one step further and give your cup cake that last final touch by adding a cherry on top!

These are two really fun filled events that you definitely won’t want to miss this summer, so make sure you plan your visit now. Both of these events are very popular and booking is essential. Book your place in advance by calling on 01206 282940 or by dropping into Hollytrees Museum, Colchester.

Tea cup workshops will be on the 2nd and 3rd of August and cup cake workshops will be on the 4th and the 5th of August. Both events cost just £1.50 per child.

These are just two of the many events that are happening at Colchester and Ipswich Museums. We have a broad range of events for families and adults all year round. To find out more information please visit www.colchestermuseums.org.uk or call 01206 282434 today!
