An exciting new website has been launched ahead of Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Month this October (2011), which lists a diverse series of events aimed at helping members of the community to a health body and a healthy mind.
The online pages, which are officially launched on Thursday 1st September 2011 and can be found at www.themindsantuary.com. The pages list over 30 events ranging from free Zumba, yoga and singing sessions, to stress busting workshops, reminiscence road shows, an Open Secrets film viewing and a ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ day.
Deogracias Lapena, community mental health nurse with Suffolk Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust’s later life team, said: “Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Month is all about improving the mental and emotional wellbeing of the people of Suffolk, while also promoting the importance of good physical health in achieving this.
Deo has organised mental health information stands for World Mental Health Day, which occurs on 10 October each year, for several years. He added: “Everyone is touched by mental health in some way. Suffolk Health and Wellbeing Month will raise awareness of the help available in the county so people know that asking for help is nothing to be ashamed of.”
Events will be taking place at locations including Beccles, Bury St Edmunds, Ipswich, Lowestoft, Newmarket, Saxmundham, Stowmarket, Sudbury and Woodbridge, and involve organisations such as Alzheimer’s Society, NHS Suffolk, Suffolk Family Carers, Survivors in Transition and Suffolk Libraries.
Activities during the month have been co-ordinated by Suffolk Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust, Suffolk County Council and The Mind Sanctuary (who is hosting the pages on its website) on behalf of everyone involved.
The idea for a month long event grew from events organised for World Mental Health Day in the past.
Full details can be found on the website.
