The group recently successfully won £2000 funding from the Kellogg’s Swim Active Grant for a Mini Polo Project to be run from 1st Jan 2012 to the end of April which will provide an introduction to the Olympic sport of water polo.Water polo is an exciting Olympic sport that develops high fitness levels, ball skills and tactical team play. Players need to be competent swimmers, though you don’t have to be a national swimming finalist like two of the current Ipswich squad. New members will learn ball handling and team awareness in this enjoyable and fast-moving sport.
Teamipswich Water Polo have two sessions a week at Crown Pools – on Tuesdays and Fridays at 8pm through to 9.20pm and have now added a third session on Sunday. The Sunday session, is sponsored by Kellogg’s until the end of April and is specifically for the younger juniors and those new to the sport. Sessions usually comprise half an hour of swimming fitness training, followed by water polo training, skills and a practice match.
The club fields a side in the East Anglian Water Polo League’s winter and summer leagues, as well as in cup competitions and tournaments.
