Pier Show set to return to Felixstowe

Cromer Pier’s Summer Seaside Special will once again be returning to Felixstowe albeit a little later this year. Due to its popularity in Cromer they have added an extra week of the Best of Show meaning that the show will be coming to Felixstowe on the 11th & 12th October 2012.

Julie Howes, Theatre Manager for the Spa pavilion “It’s been a real rollercoaster ride over the past few months but I am extremely happy that we are able to continue with our programme until January 2013 and look forward to what the future may bring to this wonderful theatre. Seaside Special celebrates its 35th Birthday this year and I hope that we continue to see it in Felixstowe for many years to come”

Seaside Special is North Norfolk’s all singing, all dancing summer variety spectacular which brings you a diverse blend of great pop music, breath taking West End Ballads, speciality acts that make you gasp in amazement and lashings of saucy-postcard humour.

Throughout the summer season in Cromer the talented cast will perform two shows culminating in The Best of Seaside Special 2012 at the end of the season which is the show they will be bringing to Felixstowe in October.

Summer Seaside Special and is one of the only shows and cultural events in the Country that will be celebrating both the Olympics and the year of the Queens Diamond Jubilee in one package when it presents its opening show “Pride – A Festival of Britain”

2012 will undeniably be one of those years that generations will remember for the once in a lifetime culmination that we are bringing the Olympic Games back to Britain for the first time in 64 years and the Queen is celebrating 60 years on the Throne. Cromer Pier has been around for all of those years and is taking the opportunity this year to celebrate 2012 and 60 years of Pride in our Queen and in our nation.

The theme therefore is unashamedly patriotic and the Summer Seaside Special team make no apologies for taking this opportunity to “fly the flag” in this show that celebrates the music and cultural heritage of the last 60 years that culminates in the World being invited to Britain to celebrate the greatest sporting contest on the planet. In the year that the Olympic torch will be coming to Cromer (July 4th) the cast of Summer Seaside Special will stir both Pride and nostalgia with a romp through the images and music that put the “Great” in Britain from The Beatles to Bond and brought us from Dusty, Sandy Shaw and Cilla to Adele, Jesse J and Pixie Lott. All ages will love the music and dance which is why Summer Seaside Special 2012, more than ever, is such a family affair this year and we welcome all generations to celebrate this amazing summer festival together. In order to vault back and forth through six decades seamlessly in true Doctor Who style the irrepressible comedy-magic and illusions of headline act Dain Cordean will be the key ingredient ably supported by the unique comedy style of Ben Langley. Karina Grigorieva will astound you with her strength, flexibility and grace as she performs her amazing hand balancing act. As ever the SSS dancers and our fabulous vocalists Rob McVeigh and Sophie Bloom will make several laps of honour with the usual mix of stunning costumes and dance routines that would leave even Usain Bolt out of breath! We can promise our audiences a show to remember in a year to remember!

Show 2 is entitled Galleria where in this “cultural fantasy” set in the near future the story is that following his record £188m Euromillions lottery win a wealthy anonymous Cromer resident has commissioned Lord Foster to build a word class Art Gallery in Cromer/North Norfolk to rival the Louvre and Tate modern and has stocked the gallery with iconic images that inspired him. This highly secretive benefactor has commissioned the SSS team to be the first visitors to the museum to celebrate the art and breathe life into his vision. Through the incredible magic and illusions of Dain Cordean the various paintings somehow come to life and proceed to tell their story although to paraphrase Mr Spock “not as we know it” so there will be some wonderful surprises for all as we portray our own version of some of the great images of our time and what we think their real story might be told through a stunning mix of song, dance and comedy. What was the Mona Lisa really thinking with that smile and will the imploringly passionate vocals of Rob McVeigh make her genuinely happy or can the stunning voice of Sophie Bloom express how Marilyn Monroe felt about herself as an Andy Warhol painting? Masterpieces from the great Artists of the ages leap from the canvass and inspire the cast into moments of joy and inspiration as well as gentle reflection mixed together on the usual palette of great sketches and comedy from Dain Cordean and Ben Langley. In a rousing song and dance finale that would shame the costumes even on “Strictly” one of the most popular Jack Vettriano images bursts into life almost as if it springs up from Cromer beach beneath the stage. As always the music is inspired from across the generations making the show a real family treat as the famous SSS production continues to blend the ingredients of traditional “live” variety with modern theatrical techniques and an innovative storyline for young and old to enjoy.
