Ipswich Choral Society at Snape

Ipswich Choral Society are delighted to return to Snape Maltings to perform with their president, international conductor, Cem Mansur. Cem conducted the Society’s 180th anniversary performance of Messiah to a full house at Snape Maltings in 2004 with the Britten Sinfonia.

Ipswich Choral Society were also privileged in performing La Clemenza di Tito with Cem at the 34th International Music Festival with the Akbank Chamber Orchestra in Istanbul in 2006.

Through its membership, the society has forged a link with the Suffolk Youth Orchestra, the county’s premiere youth ensemble, directed by Philip Shaw OBE. This is a full symphony orchestra of young musicians aged between 13 and 21 years. As well as performing annually for Aldeburgh Music in its Snape Proms series, SYO has toured extensively, giving performances to critical acclaim throughout Europe. It has even performed in the presence of the Queen and Prince Philip, presenting a “Prom in the Park” in the Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds on the occasion of the Queen’s Golden Jubilee visit to Suffolk. The Suffolk Youth Orchestra will perform the “Titus” Overture (La Clemenza di Tito) and Mozart’s Piano Concerto no 20 in addition to the Requiem.

Pianist for the evening will be Erdem Misirlioglu, born and educated in Ipswich and a former member of the Suffolk Youth Orchestra. Erdem won the piano section of BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2008 and went on to perform Rhapsody on a Theme of Paganini with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales.

Soloists for the Requiem are Fiona Hammacott (Soprano) Clarissa Meek (Alto) Nicholas Ransley (Tenor) and Timothy Dawkins (Bass). Supporters of the Ipswich Choral Society will remember Fiona, who recently gave an outstanding performance in Brahms German Requiem. The Society are delighted to welcome all of their distinguished soloists, and are looking forward to this very special concert on 22nd April.
