Let There Be Drums

The Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers are on tour this spring and they are bringing their dramatic and theatrical stage show to the Spa Pavilion Theatre on Thursday 24th May.

Thundering rhythms on a huge taiko drums interweave with layers of percussive soundscapes and delicate bamboo flute in a spellbinding display of precise choreography and sheer athleticism.
Through years of rigorous touring as Europe’s leading taiko drum group, Mugenkyo have developed a gritty passionate style that is uniquely their own, retaining the traditional spirit of taiko yet creating a contempory sound and a modern stage show that has captivated audiences everywhere!

Last year they thrilled the 40,000-strong audience at London’s Proms in the Park, as well as pushing the boundaries with a collaboration with the Scottish National Jazz Orchestra at the London Jazz Festival. Their 40-date autumn 2011 concert tour concluded with a standing ovation at the prestigious Edinburgh Usher Halls.

The year 2012 is an important one for the group, as the two founders of the group, Neil Mackie and Miyuki Williams celebrate 20 years since first traveling to Japan and starting on their Taiko path. The group will also be performing in Japan in July at the Extasia Festival, and are hugely honoured to be able to represent European Taiko at the foremost Taiko festival.

The Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers will be at the Spa Pavilion Theatre, Felixstowe on Thursday 24th May at 7.30pm. To book tickets contact the Box Office on 01394 282126.
