Ipswich getting ready to Sparkle!!

Ipswich is set to become a truly magical winter wonderland this Christmas. Ipswich Central and Ipswich Borough Council have joined forces and invested in a brand new Christmas lighting scheme for Ipswich town centre.

Sunday 25th November will see a ‘Big Switch On’ event taking place in the heart of the town. However the weekend before the ‘Big Switch On’, there will be a Christmas Market lining parts of Princes Street, Queens Street, St Nicholas Street, all the way down to Cromwell Square. Taking place from Thursday 15th until Sunday 18th November, this will be the beginning of the celebrations.

Late night shopping will commence on Thursday 21st November, with many retailers opening late into the evening for the Christmas shopping to begin in earnest. This will run every Thursday until 20th December.

The ‘Big Switch On’ is not just the unveiling of the brand new lights. There is a whole day of fun and festivities planned so families are encouraged to come into the town centre and make the most of what Ipswich has to offer. The town will be brought to life from 11am with music, entertainment and the like to create a real festive atmosphere.

The new spectacular lights will be located across the retail heart of the town, down to and including the Waterfront. All will be adorned with the festive sparkle and at approximately 5pm on the 25th they will be switched on and revealed in their full glory.

To celebrate the arrival of this new light display, there will be further surprises in store to be revealed in the day.

Councillor Carole Jones said, “The Christmas lights are set to create a real talking point for Ipswich. They will be a must-see for all and I recommend that you come and do your Christmas shopping in Ipswich to see them for yourselves!”

Paul Clement, Chief Executive of Ipswich Central, said, “Ipswich will look fantastic this Christmas. We have gone for real show-stopper with our lights and surprises. With our objective to position Ipswich as a progressive and forward-thinking town, these lights are creative, different and designed to really get people talking.”
