New Ipswich Mayor

The new Mayor of Ipswich is Borough Councillor Hamil Clarke. He was elected to office at last night’s Annual Council Meeting at the Corn Exchange.

Barbados-born Councillor Clarke, who was also Mayor in 1998-1999, succeeds Councillor Mary Blake, who now takes on the role of Deputy Mayor.

Hamil Clarke, 73, represents Sprites Ward. He was first elected in 1990 and ran his own business in the town for many years.

His Mayoress is his partner, Daisy Weekes.

The new Mayor has chosen the theme for his year of office: “Bringing Communities Together”. His three charities are the East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices (EACH), Fresh Start – New Beginnings, and the Dame Vera Lynn Trust for children with cerebral palsy.
