On Tuesday 11th September, Charles Notcutt from Woodbridge in Bloom and Chris Harrold of Choose Woodbridge attended the 2013 Anglia in Bloom Awards in St Albans to receive two awards on behalf of Woodbridge: A Silver Award in the Town Category and a Special Award for Best Industrial/Commercial Area, for the Flood Plain Garden at Notcutts.
Charles-Nottcutt-&-Chris-HarroldThe Anglia in Bloom competition includes towns from Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex, Hertfordshire and Norfolk, as well as Suffolk. Suffolk held its own in the competition, bringing home four of the 14 Special Awards. In the Town category Woodbridge was up against some stiff competition, namely; Chatteris, Downham Market, Halstead, Maldon, Sudbury and Whittlesey. Halstead & Sudbury both won Gold Awards, with Halstead winning the Category overall.
Speaking after the ceremony, Chris Harrold of Choose Woodbridge said; “This year our submission was all about the community projects that make our town special. We’re thrilled that the judges recognised the efforts of the various Woodbridge groups, businesses, individuals and schools that contributed to this year’s portfolio with a very welcome Silver Award.
He continued: “There are some criteria for which we need build our offering. Things like sensory gardens and projects within secondary schools, as well conservation and environmental initiatives are key to our success in this competition and, more importantly, will add value to the community. We’re fortunate to have a responsive and very active community in Woodbridge that is already working these areas. This competition is fabulous for inspiring these sorts of beneficial developments in and around the town. Next year, we’re going for gold!”
