How much can you raise for charity with just £50?

A local charity is searching for companies in Suffolk to take part in an entrepreneurial challenge to turn £50 into as much money as possible.

Papworth Trust’s £50 Accumulator Challenge will see local businesses being given £50 each, and a challenge to increase the money as much as they can within 3 months.

All funds raised will be donated to charity Papworth Trust, which provides essential services for local disabled and disadvantaged people. For example, the Trust’s centres in Ipswich offer a choice of activities for disabled people to have fun, learn new skills and do work experience.

Papworth Trust’s £50 Accumulator Challenge will launch at an event on Wednesday 25th September at Greshams in Ipswich.

“This is the perfect opportunity for your business to take part in a creative team challenge,” said Jo Revitt, Corporate Fundraiser at Papworth Trust. “Not only is it an ideal opportunity to encourage teamwork, but the money you raise will go towards supporting disabled people and their families in your community.

“At our launch event on September 25 we will hand out £50 notes to companies. They will then have 3 months to make it grow as much as possible – for example by holding different fundraising events. What you do is up to you and your team’s entrepreneurial spirit and imagination, as long as it is safe and legal of course!

“We will announce which business has raised the most money at our Challenge Finale in January 2014. The winning team will receive a prize, and we will also add your company’s logo and a hyperlink to our website if you raise £500 or more.”

The Lions Club of Ipswich has already signed up for the challenge. Press Officer Wendy Cook said, “The Lions Club of Ipswich has been associated with Papworth Trust in the past as we feel it is a worthy cause. Our members decided to split the £50 into five lots of £10 each for five teams who will also compete amongst each other to raise the most money. Competition is fierce within the club, and members are keeping tight-lipped on how they intend to increase their £10!”
Saracens Business Centre will also be taking on the challenge. Operations Director Nick Hampton said, “We decided to take part in this challenge as it was an original way to raise money for a good cause. Even in the planning meetings for the events we have seen how it is a fantastic team building exercise, with many of our staff showing a natural flair for creativity and marketing.”

Mandy Camilleri from Greshams said, “We are delighted to be supporting Papworth Trust and the fantastic work that they do in the community by hosting the launch of the Accumulator Challenge in our new function room, the Ven-Yew, on 25 September. We will also be taking part in the challenge and raising lots of money before the end of the year.”
