Have a flirt with a One Night Stand at DanceEast

DanceEast have introduced an exciting, new strand to its artistic programme, the One Night Stand. The aim of this initiative is to introduce new work by the best new dance companies to the Jerwood DanceHouse, some of which may be challenging, but all of it will be of the highest quality.

Keen to engage with audience members after the performances to gain feedback on the work, DanceEast will be offering all One Night Stand ticket holders a half price drink at the bar post-show and the opportunity to chat to Brendan Keaney, Artistic Director and Chief Executive, along with his colleagues.

Running on Empty, by dance theatre company Probe, kicked off the programme with an intrepid contemporary dance piece which wowed audiences at the Jerwood DanceHouse Ipswich. Dance, text and song were combined to tell the story of man, woman and their repeated collision over time, travelling through dreams, fears and memories.

Speaking about the new works, Keaney says, “My tip this season would be, whatever you do, do not miss Avant Garde Dance, this extraordinary young company is genuinely moving street dance into new territory – they are on the cusp of something very fresh and exciting”.

The second show lined up in the programme is The Black Album by effortlessly stylish Avant Garde Dance. This London-based company, under the artistic direction of Tony Adigun – 2011 & 2012 BEFFTA Best Choreographer and Artistic Director of Sky’s Got To Dance – will present an exceptional triple bill, The Black Album. Featuring three distinctly different hip hop choreographies, seamlessly woven together like a concept album, the work is music inspired and the innovative choreography is sure to take audience members on an exciting journey. Open up the sleeve of The Black Album on Friday 4th April to find a line-up of effortlessly stylish dance.

Other One Night Stand performances include A Darker Shade of Fado by Nuno Silva, In Good Company by Hofesh Shechter Company and a mixed bill from HeadSpaceDance.
