Touch Rugby Day back in Woodbridge

The Seckford Shield community touch rugby tournament is on 16th August at Woodbridge Rugby Club. The relaxed tournament is a fun way for people to have a go at rugby, without getting hurt. There will be a BBQ and music all day and the bar will open for refreshments.

Seckford-Shield-2012-9The competition starts at 10am and costs £10 per team. It’s open to men and women over 16. All levels of skill and fitness are welcome. You can either enter a full team or turn up and join a team on the day. Teams are made up of seven or more players and must include 2 women. Games are six a side with unlimited substitutions from the squad of ten – but one female must be on the pitch at all times. Games are ten minutes each way. An introduction to the game and the rules will be provided on the day.

The Seckford Shield is backed by Suffolk Coastal District Council, Woodbridge Rugby Club and the English Rugby Football Union.

District Councillor, TJ Haworth-Culf, explained: “We are looking to build on the success of the previous three years and encourage the community to get active and try new things. The competition is open to local pub teams, businesses and individuals. It’s always fun and welcoming to new players and a fantastic day out in the sunshine.”
