Poppy Appeal launch in Ipswich

The 2014 Poppy Appeal in Ipswich will be launched on Saturday (25th October) by the Mayor, Councillor Bill Quinton.

The Mayor will address veterans and civic leaders from the Town Hall steps at noon and then lead a procession to Tower Ramparts Shopping Centre, where he will officially open this year’s Poppy Shop.

The Mayor said: “The Poppy Appeal is a very important date as it marks the start of the Remembrance commemorations. This year it has even more significance as it is the centenary of the start of the First World War. We will never forget the courage shown by our Armed Forces, many of whom paid the supreme sacrifice for their families and their country. That courage is still being shown today.”
Local music group Trianon will be giving £1,200 to the Royal British Legion during the Poppy Appeal launch at the Town Hall. The money was raised from the John Rutter Singing Day which Trianon organised in September at Suffolk One to mark the 50th anniversary of the Trianon Choir.
