Author to sign copies of new Giles book

Local author and historian John Field is to sign copies of his latest book of Giles cartoons at Ipswich’s Tourist Information Centre in St Stephen’s Church on Saturday 22nd November from 11am to 2pm.

The book concentrates on Giles works featuring destinations around Britain. Several are set in Ipswich and Suffolk, featuring local landmarks as well as the immortal Giles “Family”.

Giles was Britain’s best loved cartoonist, voted “best cartoonist of the 20th Century” and winning fame at the Sunday Express and Daily Express and at other publications. He was associated with Ipswich all his married life, working from his town centre studio overlooking the area now known as Giles Circus.

John Field has been a lifelong fan of Giles and as well as collating several books of the cartoonist’s works also gives lectures and presentations on Giles and his association with Ipswich. The latest book includes editorial about each of the cartoons, including information about what was happening in the news at the time to inspire Giles.

“Giles, the Collection 2015” is available at the Tourist Information Centre, priced £7.99. Further details from the Tourist Information Centre 01473 258070,tourist@ipswich.gov.uk
