Help combatting inactivity and obesity

Babergh District Council Healthy Communities have joined forces with Hadleigh Health Centre to help combat inactivity and obesity both of which are big factors for an individual’s health and well-being.

The aim is to help residents of Hadleigh understand how they can improve their general health and wellbeing with a quick and easy Ready and Go Body Check.

The Ready and Go Body Check is quick and easy to complete. You just need to remove your socks and shoes and jump on. Boditrax is a cloud hosted digital platform performing body composition, activity tracking, allowing us to set individual goals and report on your personal progress.

The Ready and Go Body Check Results shows exactly what you are made of; including weight, BMI, fat mass, muscle mass, water mass, bone mass and visceral fat score (the bad stuff around your heart and lungs). The system includes an easy to follow traffic light rating that shows your results as Red, Amber or Green zone clearly highlighting areas to focus on.

The Ready and Go Body Check Assessment takes just 5-minutes and gives the users immediate access to their own results which can be viewed on any internet enabled device. If their results show an Amber or Red Indicator they will automatically be entitled to a free self-referral with a qualified Community Health and Wellbeing Coach. They then will have the opportunity to discuss how they feel about their results, and be signposted to community health and wellbeing partners who can support them to achieve their personal goals. This may include; drinking more water, looking at what they eat or drink or being more active.

The Ready and Go Body Check provides an accessible early intervention to everyone in the community young or old. We can all benefit from understanding what we are made of and this self-help approach will also helpto reduce costs to the NHS in the long term. There are no additional costs to them for this service.

Joe Harvey, Health and Wellbeing Manager leading this project on behalf of the Babergh District Council Healthy Communities Team says ‘we will be providing this service from the Hadleigh Health Centre Practice, Market Place, Hadleigh every Friday Morning between 08:30 and 12:30, there is no need to book just come and see what everyone is talking about. This service is available for the whole community.’

Peter Larner, Manager of Hadleigh Health Centre added `We are delighted to host this exciting new service. I encourage all our patients to give it a go – and it is free`
