Festive Fiesta! at Tourist Information Centre

Ipswich Tourist Information Centre, in the beautiful setting of St Stephen’s Church in the town, is celebrating the approach of the Christmas season with a Festive Fiesta day this coming weekend!

taster_day01Helping things go with a swing will be seasonal music, delicious local produce (including Suffolk Juices, Jams and pickles) and the fabulous annual Christmas card and gift shop run by Cards for Good Causes in aid of over 50 local, national, and international charities.

Local Author, John Field, will be there from 2.30pm until 4pm, signing copies of his latest collection of Giles Cartoons. Drawn from the archives of the works by Britain’s best loved cartoonist, “Giles 2016” is themed “British Institutions” and is packed with cartoons lampooning great British favourites including “The Monarchy”, “The BBC”, “Football”, and “Bobbies on the Beat”. With a Foreword by antiques expert, Judith Miller, and an introduction and notes by John Field about the news and circumstances that inspired each of the Cartoons, “Giles 2016” is a must for all fans – with the added bonus for local people that many of the scenes are instantly recognisable – as Giles regularly depicted his native Ipswich and Suffolk in his work.

A seasonal guided Walk “Dickens Ipswich” will commence at the Tourist Information Centre at 2.15pm. Looking at the town in the time of the great writer, Charles Dickens – who was a frequent visitor to Ipswich and included local scenes and characters in his writing – the walk costs just £4 per person and includes a glass of hot, alcohol free, punch to send walkers on their way with a warm glow! Places must be booked in advance. Further details and bookings are available from the Tourist Information Centre.

As ever, the Tourist Information Centre offers a fine selection of gift ideas including local books and beautiful Calendar’s making great Christmas presents. The Tourist Information Centre is open from 9am until 5pm and further details of their “Festive Fiesta” are available by calling 01473 258070 or emailing tourist@ipswich.gov.uk.
