Due to the growing popularity of the Dunwich Dynamo cycle event, and to maintain a punctual and safe service, Abellio Greater Anglia will this year be introducing partial cycle restrictions on the network on Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 July.
The restrictions are as follows:
Saturday 16 July – Only the normal number of bikes will be permitted on our trains (6 bikes on Mainline services between Norwich and London, and 4 on all other routes)
Sunday 17 July – NO bikes will be allowed on trains between Lowestoft and Ipswich, and Lowestoft and Norwich. A special timetable will be in operation for Intercity services leaving Ipswich between 0900 and 1500, on which 50 bikes will be permitted to travel on trains to London. A special reservation will be required and be can obtained at www.abelliogreateranglia.co.uk/dunwich-dynamo-reservation. Booking closes at 2100 Saturday 9 July. All other routes will only allow the normal number of 4 bikes per train.
Network Rail is carrying out planned improvement works across the during the weekend so passengers are advised to check before they travel.
James Steward, Abellio Greater Anglia’s Area Customer Service Manager, said: “These restrictions are in place for the safety of our passengers and these rules will also help to maintain a reliable and punctual service.
“A no-restrictions policy compromises our ability to operate the normal service, incurs delays and potential missed connections and inconveniences other rail passengers. Our local train fleet is not designed to have cycles piled up in the seating area.
“What we’ve developed is an alternative for users which is the most practical option given the resources available.
We’ll be grateful for the cooperation of cyclists in working with us to help achieve a positive outcome. This alternative means that we can continue to offer a service for those attending the cycle ride, while ensuring that we do not compromise the normal service provision.”
