Steam trains will be running every Bank Holiday and summer Sundays from 29th May to 29th August, plus three major events.
The Mid Suffolk Light Railway, in its 25th Anniversary Year, has an exciting programme with no less than four locos in residence throughout the season, including a new visitor the 1923 North Eastern Railway Y7 0-4-0 tank engine. The Middy, as it is affectionately known, have also recently been awarded an Accredited Museum Status by The Arts Council and received a substantial grant from The Heritage Lottery Fund to build our new engine shed and restoration works project.
On Sunday 19th June it’s Continental Railway Day. Featuring the superb Belgian tram loco, this special Father’s Day Event will have a selection of Continental beers to sample in the bar coach, The Kitchener Arms and lots of other goodies including proper Continental frites, Belgian chocolates and waffles.
There will be a Rail’n’Ale Weekend on Sunday 28th and Monday 29th August. Two locomotives in steam pulling passenger trains and demonstration goods trains creating the atmosphere of the past, together with a selection of Suffolk’s finest local ales to sample in The Kitchener Arms.
On Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th of September the Middy’s 4 loco Steam Railway Gala will take place. All four locos will be in steam – more than ever before at Brockford – plus traction engines and a steam powered bar courtesy of a showman’s engine driving the Kitchener Arms generator – real treat for rail fans and families alike.
2016 promises to be the busiest season yet for the Middy, running more steam trains than ever before. And every day the trains are running all the Museum attractions will be open; the Museum itself, the tea and refreshment room, the souvenir shop, Brockford model railway, the trackside walk and the Middy’s real ale bar coach – the Kitchener Arms
